Payments and Banking Commercial Counsel

Overview

Block is seeking a Payments and Banking Commercial Counsel to join its Legal & Compliance team. This remote-friendly role supports Block's payments and banking business, providing strategic legal guidance on commercial agreements, regulatory considerations, and partnerships in the fintech space.

What you'll do

• Provide legal advice and drafting for payments and banking-related commercial agreements, partnerships, licensing, and vendor arrangements.
• Negotiate terms with financial institutions, payment processors, and technology vendors.
• Advise on regulatory compliance for payments, money transmission, privacy, data security, and related consumer protection issues.
• Collaborate with product, partnerships, risk, and compliance teams to support growth initiatives.
• Manage third-party risk, contractual governance, and compliance documentation.
• Monitor changes in applicable laws and regulations impacting payments and fintech and translate into practical guidance.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar admission.
• 4+ years of experience in corporate/commercial law, fintech, payments, or banking.
• Strong negotiation, drafting, and communication skills; ability to advise non-legal stakeholders.
• Experience with payments systems, card networks, fraud prevention, risk management, and vendor governance.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced tech environment, in a remote-ready or hybrid setup.

Compensation & benefits

Zone A Salary Range: USD 180,000 - 270,000 per year, plus standard Block benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and geographic location.

Remote-friendly role with flexibility for hybrid arrangements. Location: Bay Area, CA, United States of America (remote options available).
