The Product Team organisation at Back Market is a distributed team in New York, Europe, and Tokyo, and is fully remote. This setup ensures a richly diverse mindset in our approach and deliverables, with a passion for building interfaces with the user as our focus.

We zoom out to see the bigger picture, but also understand that the devil is in the details. We are responsible for the user experience on Back Market, whether it involves our customers or professional refurbishers. Through designing, prototyping, testing, and iterating, we evolve it in collaboration with different (and extraordinary) people.

About the Job:

We’re looking for a Product Manager to join us to make Back Market the most successful destination for buying refurbished products in Japan.

You’ll collaborate with our Engineers, Product Designers, User Researchers, and Content Designers to bring a plethora of concepts and product evolution, you’ll work on a daily basis with developers to validate the technical feasibility of your proposals and to ensure the fulfillment of your craft, and you’ll also be connected with other Back Markets functions (Marketing, Brand, Business etc.) to help articulate the needs and expectations of the customer and the business.

As a Senior minded PM, you’ll autonomously own the product vision for our Japan Market, meaning creating new features and innovative journeys for Japanese citizens, taking into consideration their specific needs, which might vary from EU or US.

You will also manage the relationships with business stakeholders and other product managers to deliver impactful results.

YOUR MISSION (IF YOU ACCEPT IT): 🥇

  • You create your squad’s vision and are responsible for defining the Northstar metrics and KPIs, which drive the team toward concrete goals and impacts.

  • You are the entry point for all stakeholders in Japan, especially the Japan General Manager and Marketing Director, to help you understand the short and long-term priorities: you liaise with them to ensure your product fits perfectly into the Back Market experience.

  • You are the Engineering Manager’s daily partner: you adjust priorities if needed, and your communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineers ensure our quality standards and commitments are met.

  • The product management skills have no secret for you; you master the discovery steps (link with research, design, data), as well as delivery (testing and QA are part of the game!).

  • You communicate clearly and regularly about the risks and impacts of your roadmap and features, knowing how to anticipate problems and dependencies to ensure a smooth delivery.

  • Data is your best friend: data drives your decisions and vision… You never work without data!

YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE IF: ⭐

  • You have strong Product Manager experience (minimum 3-4 years) and are comfortable working with Product Designers, UX researchers, and Engineering teams.

  • You have product management experience in an agile environment (Scrum, Kanban, etc.), and you are able to shape product discovery and delivery according to agile principles.

  • You have a good understanding of the Japanese market and, more specifically, ecommerce behaviours and trends in Japan: PayPay or Rakuten do not have any secrets for you.

  • You are a brilliant communicator; your peers define you as a facilitator and leader. Your interpersonal skills will be crucial for that role to build strong relationships with stakeholders and top management.

  • You have a problem-solver attitude, comfortable navigating ambiguous situations using data and putting the user at the centre of all your thoughts.

  • Your native language is Japanese, and you are comfortable communicating professionally in English, as we are an international team.

  • You have an analytical mind, and even better, an analytics background. Monitoring our key performance indicators / being able to define targeted increments is part of your daily life. Data is your secret weapon to better frame and measure the quality of our features and increments.

  • You use common sense. You have a strategic but simple vision of your product. For you, the product must amplify the value of business expectations.
