📋 Description

• Design and operate real-time personalized recommendation services (Smart Shuffle, Discover Weekly).
• Build and maintain large-scale batch pipelines in Scala/Scio and Flyte.
• Develop SSP components powering playlist experiences end-to-end.
• Collaborate with data scientists to operationalize research ideas (e.g., BPM/key in ranking).
• Lead architecture decisions and set engineering standards in an autonomous team.
• Remote role within North America region; ET-friendly.

🎯 Requirements

• Backend Engineer with years of experience, strong Java, gRPC, and Protocol Buffers.
• Experience with large-scale data pipelines (Apache Beam/Scio or Spark/Flink) and orchestration tools like Flyte.
• Comfortable across backend stack: online serving (Bigtable, Memcached) to offline data (BigQuery, Dataflow, dbt).
• Curiosity about recommendation systems and personalization; focus on discovery impact.
• Commitment to reliability, observability, and production-grade systems (SLOs, on-call).
• Data-driven; able to work with data scientists to evaluate changes; GCP/Elasticsearch a plus.
