About Archer

Archer is seeking a Sr. Staff Test Engineer, Electric Engine Lead (SJ2025IM) to drive testing strategy and lead the development of electric propulsion systems. This senior role leads a cross-functional test team, defines test plans, develops automation, and ensures reliability and quality from prototype to production. Location: San Jose, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Lead test strategy and test plan development for electric engines and propulsion subsystems.
  • Mentor and manage a team of test engineers, including workload planning and performance coaching.
  • Design, implement, and maintain test automation and data pipelines (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB).
  • Develop and execute reliability, performance, and safety tests to qualify hardware and software interfaces.
  • Collaborate with Hardware, Firmware, and Software teams to diagnose issues and drive root-cause analyses.
  • Define acceptance criteria, metrics, and reporting to inform design decisions and program milestones.
  • Support design reviews and contribute to test infrastructure and toolchain improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Extensive experience in test engineering, including leadership roles (typically 8+ years).
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and scale a testing team in an R&D or product-development environment.
  • Hands-on experience with electric propulsion, battery systems, or automotive propulsion hardware.
  • Strong experience with test automation and data analysis tools (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, Jenkins).
  • Familiarity with reliability testing, environmental testing, and safety standards relevant to electric propulsion (e.g., ISO 26262).
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and/or power electronics development.
  • Background in supplier testing and integration with manufacturing ramp plans.
  • Knowledge of standards and processes for automotive or electrified propulsion programs.
