The Media Technician is responsible for the technical assembly, preparation, and distribution of media assets across the full lifecycle of content delivery—from theatrical release to home entertainment and VOD platforms. This role requires advanced technical expertise well beyond standard video editing, with a focus on ensuring assets meet industry specifications, platform requirements, and quality standards. The Media Technician will handle file-based workflows, troubleshoot complex media issues, and support both internal teams and external distribution partners with precise and reliable deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, format, and deliver theatrical, broadcast, and digital assets for global distribution.
  • Encode, transcode, and QC video and audio files to meet strict technical specifications across platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with codecs, frame rates, color space, audio channels, and subtitle/caption integration.
  • Work with localization files, versioning, and packaging for international delivery.
  • Manage assets within the digital asset management system, ensuring accurate metadata, version control, and archival practices.
  • Collaborate with the Media Operations, Marketing, and Distribution teams to ensure timely and correct delivery of assets.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving media formats, codecs, delivery standards, and best practices.
  • Author and prepare Blu-ray and DVD masters (experience preferred).
  • Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of video and audio codecs, wrappers, compression standards, and color science.
  • Strong experience with professional post-production tools (DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Creative Suite, FFmpeg, etc.).
  • Familiarity with QC tools and standards (e.g., Baton, QScan, Vidchecker).
  • Experience with Blu-ray/DVD authoring software and workflows
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex file-based workflows and solve delivery issues quickly.
  • Understanding of theatrical, broadcast, and VOD delivery requirements (DCP, ProRes, IMF, etc.).
  • Highly detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with technical and creative teams.
  • Work environment

  • When in the main office, expect a comfortable, air-conditioned work environment. Team members are issued their own desks, but the office is an open, shared space and can be fast-paced and occasionally noisy.
  • Physical demands - Will need to be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Position type and expected hours of work - Regular full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Travel required - May need to be able to travel via airline out-of-state or overseas. May need to stand for significant periods of time and/or walk significant distances while traveling or attending events.
  • Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience in a studio, post-production house, or distribution environment.
  • Familiarity with MovieLabs and industry metadata standards.
  • Experience with automated QC and delivery pipelines.
