Company Strategy

Team Principles

Join us and be part of stories that amplify light.

Summary/objective:

Oversee and manage the company’s storage servers that hold critical assets (Films), including disk-based, file system, and S3-like object storage systems. Ensure secure, reliable, and efficient access for internal teams. Provide daily storage server management, monitor and maintain backup operations to the offsite cold storage vendor, and regularly test and validate data restoral capabilities. Contribute to broader IT support and networking functions where they intersect with storage access, server connectivity, and user workflows.

Expectations at Angel Studios:

  • Amplify light in every action.
  • Take ownership of outcomes, coordinating across teams to deliver results.
  • Use resources wisely—time, people, money.
  • Know your customer (viewers, investors, creators, or internal teams) and ensure storage solutions serve their needs.
  • Give clear, candid feedback with compassion.
  • Contribute in ways that move the Angel mission forward.
  • Proactively solve problems and break down barriers rather than focusing on blame.
  • Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of storage servers, including disk arrays, NAS, SAN, and S3-like object storage.
  • Monitor storage server health, performance, and capacity, ensuring uptime, reliability, and optimal performance.
  • Manage access controls for teams and contractors, including permissions, authentication, and identity management policies.
  • Administer file systems (ZFS, XFS, ext4, NTFS) and storage pooling technologies (RAID, LVM, etc.).
  • Manage storage allocation, lifecycle policies, and tiering across hot, warm, and cold storage, including archiving and deletion workflows.
  • Oversee backup and disaster recovery processes, ensuring successful restoral tests are performed on a semi-annual basis, and maintain documented recovery runbooks.
  • Implement updates, patches, and security measures for storage servers in a timely manner, including encryption for data at rest and in transit.
  • Provide and support S3-compatible object storage APIs for integrations with internal applications, media workflows, and content pipelines.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity to storage servers (NFS, SMB, S3/HTTPS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel) in coordination with networking teams.
  • Collaborate with IT and engineering teams to ensure reliable access from on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Develop and maintain scripts/automation for storage provisioning, monitoring, reporting, and alerting.
  • Monitor and report on storage usage, growth trends, and performance metrics, and perform capacity planning and forecasting.
  • Support remote teams and contractors with VPN/S3 access to storage and provide training on storage usage and best practices.
  • Document processes, policies, troubleshooting guides, and automation workflows.
  • Explore and evaluate new storage technologies (NVMe-over-Fabrics, software-defined storage, hybrid-cloud) and benchmark storage servers to recommend upgrades or migrations.
  • Collaborate with vendors for hardware support, firmware updates, and warranty management, contributing to budgeting and cost optimization for on-prem and cloud storage.
  • Participate in IT support functions related to storage infrastructure, permissions, and data workflows, as needed.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
