Angel Studios is seeking a motivated intern to help evaluate, improve, and recommend solutions for our video and audio content-flagging system. While our current system performs well in many cases, it produces frequent false positives—especially on animated content—and occasionally misses elements it should catch. It also creates overly broad audio timestamps, sometimes spanning 10–15 seconds when the flagged element is only 1 second long. We need significantly improved precision. This internship offers hands-on experience inside the Angel Guild submission workflow along with an opportunity to research cutting-edge detection technologies and make recommendations that can meaningfully improve our content pipeline

Expectations of Leaders at Angel Studios

  • Amplify light in every action.
  • As the owner of your outcomes, you are empowered to break down silos and coordinate with any and all people you need in order to reach your goals.
  • You are ultimately responsible for achieving the outcomes while also using resources wisely - whether that be money, people, or time.
  • Know your customer - it might be our viewers, investors, creators, or internal Angel Teams. Ensure you understand your customer and are providing what THEY need and not just what you want to build.
  • You OWN the success of your team members, including hiring, onboarding, goals, performance management, raises, terminations, etc.
  • Hold team members accountable to their goals - help them grow and make the most of the resources they bring. Document their performance for reviews.
  • Create opportunities for team members to take initiative and ownership.
  • Give consistent and timely candid feedback with compassion - your team members need to know where they stand at all times. If you find yourself doubting a team member, address it swiftly with actionable feedback.
  • Essential functions

  • Reviewing real submissions entering the Angel Guild
  • Validating or invalidating system-generated flags
  • Pushing approved submissions live into the voting cycle This work will help you build a practical understanding of:
  • Where false positives typically occur (especially animation)
  • What kinds of content the system frequently misses
  • How inaccurate or overly broad timestamps affect the workflow
  • The strengths and limitations of the existing system
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
  • Researching Next Generation Detection Solutions

  • After gaining hands-on familiarity with the current process, you will research modern solutions that specialize in content detection, includingAI-based audio and video flagging models (speech detection, profanity, violence, nudity, OCR, etcThird-party companies whose primary business is outsourced content moderation Capabilities such as timestamp precision, accuracy, scalability, and customization
  • Outcome

  • By the end of this internship, you will produce a professional recommendation for a more accurate, more precise audio/video detection and flagging system—one that reduces false positives, catches more true positives, and includes tightly defined timestamps. Your final deliverable will include:
  • A recommended solution (in-house AI, external partner, or hybrid)
  • Estimated costs
  • A technical and operational implementation plan
  • An estimated timeline for rollout
