Overview
Airbnb is seeking a Tax Manager, State and Local Tax to lead the state and local tax function across North America. This role will manage compliance, planning, and risk related to SALT, support audits, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to scale Airbnb's tax strategy globally.
Responsibilities
- Lead multi-state state and local tax (SALT) compliance including registrations, filing, and payments.
- Manage state tax audits and controversy processes; coordinate with external advisors as needed.
- Oversee tax provisioning and impact to financial statements under GAAP; partner with Accounting/Finance.
- Conduct tax research and planning to optimize outcomes while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with product, finance, legal, and operations teams on new market entries and business changes.
- Monitor legislative developments and assess impact on Airbnb; recommend proactive strategies.
- Implement process improvements and, if applicable, tax technology solutions to streamline workflows.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent preferred.
- 6+ years of state and local tax experience, preferably in tech or marketplace environments.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, ASC 740, and US SALT landscape; experience with tax provisioning.
- Experience with tax software/tools (e.g., Avalara, Vertex, NetSuite, SAP/Oracle) is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities.
