Staff Software Engineer, Secure Development Engineering

Overview

Airbnb is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Secure Development Engineering to advance security across our platform. This is a remote role based in the United States, working with our Security Development Engineering team to build scalable security tooling and practices that empower developers to write secure software.

What you'll do

• Lead the design and implementation of secure development practices across product and platform teams.
• Develop and integrate security tooling to improve developer ergonomics while enhancing security outcomes.
• Collaborate on threat modeling, secure code reviews, and vulnerability management within the CI/CD pipeline.
• Own security incident readiness, detection, and response processes for secure development initiatives.
• Mentor and coach engineers, helping to scale security capabilities across the organization.
• Partner with product, design, and engineering teams to embed security into the development lifecycle and cloud infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 6+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on security.
• Deep knowledge of secure coding practices, threat modeling, static/dynamic analysis, and vulnerability management.
• Hands-on experience building security tooling and integrating security into CI/CD processes.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, Java) and familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, etc.).
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
