Our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead our mechanical engineering group. This role is responsible for the technical quality, coordination, and development of mechanical designs across a diverse portfolio of industrial, commercial, and residential projects. The successful candidate will be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, a proven leader, and a hands-on contributor with strong mentorship and organizational skills. This role is responsible for inspiring and developing talent, driving technical excellence, and ensuring high-quality, efficient project delivery exceeding client expectations.
Leadership & Team Management Lead, mentor, and coach a team of mechanical engineers, designers, and technologists across multiple offices.Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on quality, safety, innovation, and accountability.Coordinate workloads, assign projects, and monitor progress to ensure timely delivery and balanced resource allocation.Support professional development, training, and performance evaluations of team members.Champion a culture of accountability, mentorship, and continuous improvement.Serve as a visible leader representing the mechanical discipline in executive planning and strategic initiatives. Design Oversight & Quality Control Serve as the Quality Control Lead for all mechanical deliverables.Provide technical guidance and design review for HVAC, plumbing, process piping, fire protection, and other building systems.Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications (OBC, ASHRAE, NFPA, CSA, etc.).Maintain and improve internal design standards, templates, and workflows to promote consistency and efficiency across projects'Demonstrated experience with industrial mechanical systems, including process ventilation, dust collection, compressed air, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.Experience with equipment specification and integration — pumps, heat exchangers, air handling units, chillers, and process tanks.Understanding of process and material handling systems, including conveyors, mixers, and pressurized vessels.Proficiency in hazardous area design, explosion relief systems, and combustible dust mitigation per NFPA and CSA standards.Familiarity with plant layouts, mechanical rooms, and retrofit projects in active production environments.Capable of leading or reviewing mechanical portions of Pre-Start Health & Safety Reviews (PSRs) and equipment guarding assessments under Ontario Regulation 851.Coordinate mechanical designs with structural supports, electrical controls, and automation for fully integrated industrial systems. Project Delivery & Collaboration Work closely with cross-discipline leads (electrical, structural, civil, architectural) to ensure fully coordinated and integrated designs.Collaborate with Project Managers to define project scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing requirements.Review and seal engineering drawings, specifications, and reports as the responsible Professional Engineer.Participate in client meetings, site reviews, and construction coordination.Lead mechanical design efforts on complex or high-profile projects when required. Strategic Business Support Contribute to resource planning, recruitment, and team expansion initiatives.Support proposal preparation, estimating, and project pursuit activities as a technical leader.Identify process improvements and emerging technologies that enhance quality and project outcomes.Support the Director of ICI in departmental strategy, profitability, and overall business development goals. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license in Ontario (required).15+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design and engineering, including industrial, commercial, and residential building systems.Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and managing multi-disciplinary projects.Strong understanding of mechanical codes, energy efficiency standards, and safety regulations.Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.Proficient in design software and tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and related mechanical analysis programs.Ability and willingness to travel to project sites across Ontario, Quebec, and the United States as required.Eligibility for cross-border work in the United States (e.g., TN visa support provided if applicable).
