Engineering Lead (Founding Engineer)
Location: Remote – Anywhere in LATAM
Compensation: $80K–USD 120K (DOE)
About the Role
We’re a fast-growing, AI-driven travel startup seeking an experienced Engineering Lead to join as a Founding Engineer. This is a high-impact role for someone with strong technical expertise, proven startup experience, and a passion for building innovative products using the latest in AI and automation.
You’ll be instrumental in shaping our product and engineering culture, while working closely with cross-functional, global teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of core products using Node.js, React, and TypeScript.
- Work hands-on with code while providing engineering oversight, during US working hours.
- Collaborate closely with founders to ensure seamless alignment between engineering and business needs.
- Manage code quality through reviews, mentoring, and clear technical direction.
- Coordinate and communicate with distributed teams across the US, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Latin America.
- Help recruit and build a full-time, high-performing engineering team.
- Contribute to the product roadmap and drive innovation in AI-powered travel experiences.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a founding engineer or engineering lead in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Strong technical expertise in Node.js, React, and TypeScript, with a focus on scalable and maintainable architecture.
- Hands-on experience building and shipping products at a consumer-facing startup, ideally with high design and UX standards.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate with distributed teams across multiple time zones.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to align engineering with business goals.
- Deep curiosity and practical knowledge of modern AI tools, agentic workflows, and AI-assisted development platforms (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor).
- Availability to work primarily during US business hours.
- Willingness to travel to the US once a month for in-person collaboration.
- Fully committed to the role—no part-time or side projects.
- A US visa is a plus.
