Affirm is seeking a Principal Software Engineer, Developer Productivity to lead the design and development of internal developer tools that accelerate engineering velocity and reliability. This remote US role partners with Platform, Infra, and Engineering teams to build scalable, observable, and secure tooling that empower engineers to deliver customer value faster.

Role Overview

This role focuses on building and improving internal tools and platforms that enhance developer experience across Affirm's engineering teams. You will own roadmaps, drive architectural decisions, and mentor engineers while delivering high-impact solutions.

What you'll do

• Own the design and implementation of internal developer tools and platforms to improve developer productivity.
• Partner with Platform, Infra, and Product teams to define requirements and roadmaps.
• Architect scalable, observable, and secure solutions and drive adoption with measurable impact.
• Mentor senior engineers and help shape Affirm's engineering culture.
• Champion best practices for reliability, performance, and security across tooling.

What we\u2019re looking for

• 8+ years of software engineering experience; proven track record building developer tools or internal platforms.
• Proficiency in Go, Python, or TypeScript, with strong knowledge of distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience designing and delivering scalable systems and developer-oriented experiences.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to influence across teams.
• Bachelors in Computer Science or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.
