Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer I on ActBlue Technical Services, you will design, build, and maintain backend services primarily using Ruby on Rails. You’ll collaborate with product managers and frontend engineers to deliver high-impact features, mentor junior teammates, and help shape the architecture and technical direction of our platform in a remote-friendly environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain robust backend services using Ruby on Rails.
• Collaborate with product, design, and frontend teams to deliver high-quality features.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers, participate in code reviews, and share best practices.
• Improve system performance, reliability, security, and scalability.
• Create and maintain automated tests, documentation, and engineering standards.
• Contribute to architecture decisions and participate in on-call rotations as needed.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong Ruby and Ruby on Rails experience.
• Proficiency with JavaScript and frontend frameworks (e.g., React).
• Experience with PostgreSQL and SQL.
• Familiarity with AWS and Docker; knowledge of CI/CD practices.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work effectively in a remote team.
• Bonus: familiarity with GraphQL, Redis, Kubernetes.
