2K is looking for a Principal Engine Programmer to lead the development of our next-generation game engine. This role is based in San Mateo, California. You will drive core engine features, performance optimizations, and cross-team collaboration across multiple projects.

Role overview

As a senior technical leader, you will design, implement, optimize, and mentor teams to deliver high-performance, feature-rich engine capabilities across platforms.

Responsibilities

Lead the architecture and implementation of engine subsystems (rendering, physics, tooling) with a focus on scalability and maintainability.
Drive performance profiling and optimization across platforms and hardware configurations.
Collaborate with gameplay teams to translate design goals into robust, efficient engine features.
Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and contribute to best practices and tooling improvements.
Contribute to long-term engine roadmap and technical decision-making.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Extensive experience in game engine development with C++ and real-time graphics pipelines.
Strong knowledge of rendering techniques, memory management, and performance optimization.
Proven leadership skills and the ability to mentor and guide a team.
