Job Summary
2K is seeking an Expert Technical Artist to bridge art and technology on our Burnaby, Canada team. You will own the art-to-engine pipeline, optimize assets for performance, and create high-quality shaders and materials to support our titles across platforms.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain robust art pipelines from asset creation to in-engine integration.
- Create and optimize shaders and materials, implement PBR workflows, and ensure consistent visuals across platforms.
- Collaborate with art directors and engineers to optimize assets for performance and memory budgets.
- Ensure assets import reliably into Unreal Engine and/or Unity; troubleshoot issues and build import/export tooling.
- Develop tooling and automation (Python, scripting languages) to streamline workflows.
- Profile and optimize assets for runtime performance; iterate on visuals based on feedback.
- Document pipelines, standards, and best practices.
Requirements
- 5+ years as Technical Artist or related role in games.
- Proficiency with Maya and Substance Painter/Designer; strong understanding of UVs, textures, lighting, and shading.
- Deep knowledge of PBR, shaders, lighting, materials, LODs, and texture atlases.
- Experience with Unreal Engine and/or Unity; ability to author materials and shaders (HLSL/GLSL) or equivalent.
- Scripting experience (Python preferred; MEL/MAXScript or C# a plus).
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Passion for art quality and asset optimization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with HDRP/URP pipelines or real-time rendering challenges.
- Familiarity with Houdini or other content creation tools.
- Experience with version control (Git) and build systems.
